Mode-identification in multiperiodic stars:
Moment Method

Compares the observed variations of the centroid, width, and skewness of the line profiles, with those of a model of the 3D surface-velocity field.

  Balona (1986)
  Aerts, De Pauw, Waelkens (1992)
  Aerts (1996): more accurate discriminant
  Briquet & Aerts (2003): multi-periodic stars
  Kochukhov (2005): oblique pulsators

Features of the Moment Method:
Moment variations are detectable for pulsation modes with L≤4
Is more sensitive to zonal modes (M=0) than to sectoral modes (|M|=L)
Is complementary to the method that uses amplitude and phase diagrams
Is now accessible to everyone through the FAMIAS package
