The pulsational angular quantum numbers L and M can be derived from time series of high-resolution spectroscopy, with accuracy of +/- 1 or better. Needs good data!
Many successful applications of high-resolution spectroscopy for pulsation-mode identification have been presented in the (recent) literature.
Such mode identifications can significantly constrain seismic studies.
Even for faint stars (V∼12) with very short periods the techniques can be applied successfully.
The line-profile variability of the main mode of Balloon is best described by a model of a radial mode, but an L=1 mode cannot yet be excluded. Modes with L≥2 can be exluded. Further detailed modeling of the LPV is necesary to discriminate between an L=0 or L=1 origin of the main mode.
Moment Method and IPS/PPM/FPF Method are available through FAMIAS (Zima, Poster 60). Use both methods.
